Jason Nguyen

Jason (he/him/his) holds a dual-PhD from Indiana University in ethnomusicology and communication & culture. His scholarship focuses on Vietnamese diasporic identity, popular culture, and cultural performance, and he has spent nearly two decades doing research in Vietnamese communities across the world. Trained as an ethnomusicologist and cultural theorist, he believes that Vietnamese identity—whether in Việt Nam or abroad—can be profoundly generative, capable of sparking powerful movements and artistic expressions throughout history. But it can also be contentious, holding inherent contradictions and conflicts which can only be reconciled through deep dialogue, expressive art, and deliberate confrontation with our historical and embodied truths.
